I have spent over ten years writing articles, features, books and general copy for people including The Chap, the Royal Automobile Club, the Berkeley Hotel, Berry Brothers & Rudd, the Royal Geographic Society and Rivington Bye. Recent publications include an exploration of self-marriage in LYRA magazine and a long-read about Cornish treasure for Panorama.
I also help individuals and businesses with copy for websites, events and other marketing materials. Read more about that in Communications. Head on over to the Fiction section to find out more about my creative work, including writer-in-residence roles.
I have been the editor of various magazines and B2B industry journals, including two years at the helm of Pell-Mell & Woodcote. I specialise in editing longer works of non-fiction, alongside film and documentary scripts and short fiction. Get in touch if you have a book, magazine, script or story you need structural support with.
A lot of my work is about supporting good people to do interesting things and thrive in the connection economy. I work with companies, brands, start-ups and individuals to get their story heard. I particularly love working with local small businesses and creative powerhouse businesswomen. My approach is organic and collaborative, led by each client's unique resources and needs. We begin with a comprehensive strategy, rooted in the reality of your business, building in goals, deliverables, timelines and ongoing measurement.
I run The Writing Space and Lewes Short Story Club and have been involved with literary organisations including Small Wonder Festival, the Word Factory, Story Studio and Short Fuse. I am part of the faculty for the Creative Writing Programme in Brighton. My work has been short and longlisted in various places including Radio 4, the Fish Prize, the Short Fiction Prize, the Brit Writers Awards, First Novel Prize and Myriad Editions’ First Draft Competition, with work published in the Short Fiction Journal, Watermarks anthology, Pank and other places. I was awarded a six-month apprenticeship with the Word Factory and have enjoyed residencies in various places and galleries around Europe.
Workshops + Events
I set up Lewes Short Story Club in 2015 to provide short fiction reading and writing groups in Sussex, as well as events such as the Short Story Pub Crawl, Food and Flavour days, and masterclasses with leading writers. This includes a monthly Short Story Reading Club and the weekly Writing Space. I have been involved with literary events at Charleston for the Small Wonder Festival, live lit nights with Story Studio and Short Fuse and monthly short story salons at Waterstones Piccadilly with the Word Factory.
One to One Work
Some of the most rewarding work I do is with people who want personalised 1-1 support with any element of their reading, writing or editing. A lot of the time it's about 'stuckness' –how to get into writing for the first time, how to persevere through writer's block, what to read when you're in a reading rut, or maybe how to take the plunge with blogging and article generation. It's all about a coffee and a chat, being listened to, and having someone to bounce ideas off in a way that reminds you that you are brilliant and can do anything you want to. I like linking people up with one another, signposting you to other brilliant people, and encouraging skill swaps or collaborations.
